Texas Tech health network cyber attack disrupts patient care in El Paso

L.Thompson26 min ago

As Texas Tech's health network faces the fallout of a cyber attack, many patients in El Paso said it's impacting their care.

Many people said their health services are still being impacted here in El Paso and across Texas after a cyber attack back in September forced Texas Tech to delay or halt certain services.

I'm just trying to get my health back together," Texas Tech patient Crystal Castro said. "And me not knowing what's going on it's a little frightening to me.

Castro's been recovering from a C-section and a herniated disk and, due to the tech outages, has been unable to get a CT scan or access to her pain medication.

"I can't do nothing with that until the systems are back up," Castro said. "They just keep telling me to call every day to check if the systems are up."

Castro said she's concerned she's not the only one impacted by all this, and it appears that she is right.

KFOX14/CBS4 sent out a call on social media for viewers affected by the outage and many El Pasoans reached out.

One commenter said, "Appointments canceled, is frustrating". Another commenter said, "I can't get my prescriptions refilled". And another - possibly an employee with the network - saying, "can't get our patients scheduled for procedures they need".

KFOX14/CBS4 asked Texas Tech Health El Paso for comment but they said they won't speak further on this until their investigation into the cyber attack is finished.

If you or someone you know has been affected by this service interruption, please reach out to KFOX14/CBS4 newsroom at 915-845-5369 or send a message through social media.
