Thanksgiving 2023: These retailers will be closed on the holiday

G.Evans3 months ago
Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, retailers were moving toward being open on the Thanksgiving holiday.

In 2020, however, retailers quickly had to swivel to online sales and reducing crowds in stores. That resulted in many retailers choosing to close on the holiday.

The tide has turned since then with more stores going back to being closed on Thanksgiving in part as a way to thank their employees.

Walgreens is one store that announced that in 2023, most of its stores will be closed on Thanksgiving, Thursday, Nov. 23, for the first time in its history.

But, Black Friday is on. In fact, some retailers have already started early Black Friday sales and many will open their doors early on Friday, Nov. 24, for your holiday shopping. And online shopping is always open.

Stores that will be closed on the holiday include:

Grocery stores including Giant, Wegmans and Weis will be open on Thanksgiving Day but are closing early.

  • Giant - closing at 2 p.m.

  • Wegmans - closing at 4 p.m.

  • Weis Markets - closing at 3 p.m.
