Thanksgiving Interstate Travel

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - Florida is in the middle of a Thanksgiving migration, as millions of residents are set to ‘gobble’ up the highways this holiday weekend.

Most Thanksgiving travelers in NCFL will drive to their destinations and AAA predicts nearly 3 million Floridians will take a road trip of 50 miles or more. That’s nearly 71,000 more Florida drivers than last year.

And despite global tensions causing ripples through the oil market, strong domestic gasoline supplies are causing pump prices to drop. Many travelers we spoke to at the Paynes Prairie rest stop are thankful for that.

Donna Smith, travelling to South Florida from Alabama tells TV20; “Traffic’s been great so I was considering switching over to 95 cause usually this is really bad but so far so good. I just needed to get out of the car. I’m thankful for my family, and for the support that I have from everybody in my little village, and for being healthy.”

This year’s forecasted road travelers is 10,000 shy of the all-time high, set during the 2005 Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
