The city of Augusta demanding $3.3 million after filing for a lawsuit against C4 Live, LLC
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – XPR Augusta, led by the Nevada-based company "C4 Live", is being sued by the city of Augusta after plans for Lake Olmstead Stadium failed.
It's been 4 years since the city agreed to C4 Live's plans for Lake Olmstead Stadium. But those plans fell apart and now the city is trying to recoup those costs.
The lawsuit accuses C4 Live of failing to follow through in its plans to turn Lake Olmstead Stadium into an entertainment venue.
"The demoed– they did no actual construction, they did all demo and did not follow through with their agreement to upgrade and construct on site, which is why the city received damages," Augusta Economic Development Authority president Cal Wray said.
Documents also state that the city could terminate agreements at any point and that the stadium be surrendered "in good order and repair..."
"XPR Augusta doesn't exist anymore– as far as I know– the lease was terminated by their office after the lawsuit was concluded that the city terminated the lease," Wray said.
Those who frequent the area say the issue is rooted deeper.
"The problem is the grounds are unstable and that's why they bailed– the company that came in bailed on 'em. They didn't have a civil engineering group come in...," Jon Morgan said.
C4 live claims the city knew the conditions of the field and did not disclose that information.
"They need to decide if the ground's safe, then what. And if it needs remediation to stabilize the ground, that's what needs to be done," Morgan said.
As far as the future of Lake Olmstead Stadium, city developers are hopeful.
"We're obviously entertaining ideas from several projects– which I can't go into details– but we are looking at how projects can improve that area and put something back into the stadium, it's just very early on cause that lease was only terminated on Augusta 11th," Wray said.
