The Salvation Army in Hastings organizes annual Thanksgiving feast
E.Wright3 months ago
HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - The Hastings Salvation Army hosted its annual Thanksgiving dinner for the community at the Adams County Fairgrounds on Thursday. The meal was offered in a “grab and go” format to accommodate a larger number of people. It featured turkey, mashed potatoes with gravy, corn, a roll and pumpkin pie. Major Dale Brandenburg of the Hastings Salvation Army said, “Since we have started coming here, we have been averaging between 475 to 500 meals a day during the two hours. Last year I think we had around 503, so this year we are going to have enough food for 500 meals. It’s been kinda slow, so we are not going to worry about running out of food, but if you want a meal, come on out and see us at 1 o’clock.” The Plainsman out of Juniata is catering the event and also serving the food for the community. They have helped with this event for over 10 years and the Salvation Army has ran this event for over 35 years. Officials from the Salvation Army see this event as a means of contributing to the community. Local business owners are also contributing by providing meals, a gesture that officials mentioned is helpful in addressing the potential shortage of volunteers. “As always, thank you everybody in Hastings for supporting the Salvation Army, we couldn’t do what we do without you.”
