The spirit of Bob Ross visits York
Bob Ross couldn't be there — the wildly popular painter in the iconic afro with a soothing voice passed away July 4, 1996 — but his unique painting style was.
The occasion was Southeast Community College's Bob Ross painting clinic at the SCC Learning Center in downtown York.
Standing in for Ross on Saturday was Lisa Strilkivsky of Lincoln, a card-carrying Bob Ross method instructor. In the morning session, Strilkivsky guided each student to completion of a Christmas wreath painting. After lunch, a whole new group arrived, this time to paint, again to Bob Ross standards, several Christmas ornaments each.
Strilkivsky earned her certification in 2015 via an intense three-week course at New Smyrna Beach, Florida.
The afternoon ornament clinic included two family connections. Amanda Kunze of Lincoln attended with her mother, Linda Kunze from Palmer. Also at the table were Jacki Wilkins and son Jaeden of Geneva.
During an event March 11 at the Learning Center, Fourth and Lincoln Avenue in downtown York, participants will create large, festive carrots of wood just in time for spring home décor.
