The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall, ‘The Wall That Heals’ has arrived in Bay County
BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WMBB) – The Bay County Veterans Council will host the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall, 'The Wall That Heals' this week.
The memorial will arrive in Panama City Beach and travel through the city until it reaches its temporary location in Callaway.
The Wall That Heals is a 3/4 scale traveling replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington D.C., it is 7.5 feet tall and 375 feet in length.
"We started our season in Hawaii in February, but this trailer on the boat was sent all the way out there. We figured the for this the way we could do to finish. Our 29 stops us from coming over here to Pensacola. So our season ends here this week in Pensacola. This wall is going to be escorted today by over 50 motorcycle riders," Director of Outreach for The Wall That Heals Tim Tates said.
City of Callaway hosts annual Veterans Day Celebration
This exhibit is free to attend and will open to the public on Wednesday, November 13, at 2:00 p.m. at the Callaway Recreation Complex. There will be an opening ceremony on Thursday, November 14, at 8:00 a.m.
"It will be open 24 hours a day until 2 o'clock on Sunday, giving the people the opportunity to come and experience the wall as if they were in Washington, D.C., they can pay their homage and understand the service and sacrifice of those 3 million men who served the country, and they can learn more about the war and how those services changed our country," Tates said.
On Friday, November 15, there will be an Agent Orange Awareness Candlelight Ceremony at 4:45 p.m. There will be a closing ceremony on Sunday, November 17, at 1:45 p.m.
