The WORST dressed at the 2024 Melbourne Cup - as celebrities storm the Birdcage in fairytale disasters, frumpy frocks and frilled nightmares

Australia's IT-girls have proven it takes more than money and connections to pull off the perfect race day look as they headed to the Birdcage for the 2024 Melbourne Cup.

From disastrous fairy-tale inspired gowns to ill-fitting frocks and hats that turned heads for all the wrong reasons it appeared some of the stars had taken long odds on their fashion choices and... lost.

Olivia Molly Rogers

Among the most disappointing on Tuesday was model Olivia Molly Rogers, who is typically among the very best dressed at every occasion.

The stunning 32-year-old model and podcaster wore a custom Oglia Loro Couture gown for the race - pairing it with a giant disc hat by Ezara J.

She added pointed red shows and a high-shine clutch to the outfit - but failed to impress as she posed for photographers on her way into the Birdcage.

The stunning young woman went with a natural makeup look and wore her hair slicked back.

While the hat and shoes were on point the dress drowned Olivia's figure. The long sleeves simply added to the visual confusion as did the bag which was the wrong texture for the rest of the outfit.

Jessie Murphy

Glamorous AFL WAG Jessie Murphy missed the mark with her ultra-structured velvet gown by Capellazo couture and awkward pill box - turned flight attendant hat by Ezara J.

The 33-year-old mum-of-two continued to stack on awkward details with a textured clutch and shiny shoes.

Jessie appeared to have whole heartedly jumped on the 'red is the colour of the year' bandwagon without stopping to find the matching tones and textures to get it right.

While the glamorous blonde's outfit choices landed her in the worst dressed list, like Olivia Molly Rogers, she's not often found there.

It wasn't all bad, of course, Jessie wore her hair down and long with the help of extensions and added some Constantina Vintage earrings which were very on trend.

She opted to use natural tones with her makeup choices, adding a dark lip liner to accentuate the fullness of her lips.

Jules Robinson

Jules Robinson tried to adapt her earth-mother style to the racetrack with dire consequences.

They typically glamorous mum and entrepreneur donned a mixed mustard halter neck gown and giant straw hat for the big race.

And while these key components may not have landed on the worst dressed list alone, the added gloves definitely secured her a spot.

The odd, sheer gloves stretched past her elbow and to her bicep and raised eyebrows as many wondered what style purpose they served.

She paired them with a matching nude clutch and heels which were super safe, overcompensating for the choice in gloves.

The dress, which fit her well and was flattering in that sense, had a large floral pattern which felt more resort-themed than race-ready.

Jules actually posted about a Flemington fashion disaster close to home in the lead up to the great race, referencing her husband's broken sunglasses.

She was seemingly unaware of her own faux pas.

Renee Fay Lamb

This little-known actress has been dubbed a 'triple-threat' to watch out for, and made several appearances in the Birdcage at Flemington.

Also a model and singer Renee definitely exuded confidence in her emerald green get up on the sidelines of Australia's most famous horse race on Tuesday.

But the all green dress and accessory combination did was wash the young Melbourne woman out.

The huge shoulders on the deep green gown swamped her figure; this effect was intensified by the large bow on her back.

The young starlet also wore a cute bowed hat on her head - which might have been described as tasteful had it not had a handful of peacock feathers precariously placed on top.

The model's efforts put her on this year's worst dressed list, but according to those in the know she is still one to watch professionally.

Samantha Armytage

The former television presenter showed up in an off-shoulder red dress, netted veil and strappy heels which ticked all the boxes in theory.

But, unfortunately for the well-known Aussie, the dress didn't look like it fit quite right and dwarfed her fine frame.

The 48-year-old, who is set to host the Golden Bachelor in 2025, looked uncomfortable with the netting across her face and under-done hair style.

The bag and shoes, which were both decent picks by the starlet, failed to promote the look from 'worst dressed'.

Melissa Leong

No stranger to the worst dressed list, Melissa Leong continued to embrace her quirky dress code-snubbing style as she headed to the Lexus Marquee in the Birdcage.

The television personality thanked her style team for creating the trackside look.

'Rock N Roll today,' she wrote, debuting her look.

'None of the skill displayed here can be attributed to me. Chanelling Chloe boho rock vibes.'

The burnt red shade of the Viceta Wang dress suited the 42-year-old who added a matching lip and eyeshadow for effect.

However, the off-kilter take on the red colour trend is where the wins stopped for the television personality.

Her navy blue hat and textured maroon bag clashed and her choice of accessories, chain necklaces, looked more suited to a music festival.

The rosettas and frill detailing at the front added to the mis-matched textured and almost casual feel to the outfit.

Perri Lee

DJ Perri Lee looked like she took a wrong turn and ended up in Flemington instead of fairyland.

The young music lover, who is known for her unique style, definitely had it on show in her Wicked-themed race wear.

The dress came off her shoulders with a large frill before coming in around her waist and exploding into layers of tulle.

The centre panel was sheer, showing off her stomach as she threw caution to the wind in he dress code department.

The dress was paired with an equally fairy-style pink purse and veil which featured a bow in the same shade as her dress.

The outfit was finished off with a cute pair of pointed heels.

The dress was custom-made by Silvana Tedesco who is known for her bridal designs and statement pieces. The designer boasts the ability to give women the ability to wear what they want.

And despite landing in the worst-dressed list for the event, Perri Lee did looked stoked with the gown.

She flitted around the race course twirling and showing off the voluminous skirt.

The beaded bag is $119 and designed by Olga Berg and the hat by Felicity North East Millinery.

Brodie Ryan

Brodie Ryan's outfit also landed her on the worst dressed list.

The Wag, who is AFL legend Nathan Buckley's partner, revealed she started getting ready for the Birdcage at 5.30am.

The stunning brunette donned a Leo Lin strapless gown for the occasion but it did her no favours.

The satin material reflected the light awkwardly and the floral details distracted the eye.

The young woman's choice of necklace was connected to her hat detailing which confused onlookers and her square clutch went against the look completely.

Brodie did nail her understated hair and makeup look though and appeared naturally elegant despite the awkward hat and dress combo.

Special Mentions

While not the worst of the worst, other racegoers in the VIP suite also stood out for all the wrong reasons.

Milliner Chantelle Ford started strong donning one of her own exquisite hats, before pairing it with slacks and a button-down shirt.

The statement winged sunnies and Jetson-themed boots did little to redeem the young woman who grinned for photographers.

Despite not looking race ready the Block star looked comfortable with her choices and probably escaped sore feet and wardrobe malfunctions on the day.

Journalist and fashion editor Melissa Singer ticked off racing etiquette's most controversial no-no for raceday wear by showing off her stomach.

The odd green and gold tweed suit washed the writer out and made her look like she was drowning in fabric.

Nadia Bartell also made tragic choices with an unflattering mini-dress. The dress featured a deep V, collar and long 'short sleeves'.

It also came in at the waist before briefly ballooning and abruptly stopping on the upper thigh.
