‘They didn’t let us know’: Arby’s employees show up to work to find restaurant permanently closed

CLEVELAND, Ohio ( WOIO /Gray News) – Employees of an Arby's in Cleveland, Ohio were shocked when the restaurant permanently closed without any notice.

Workers said they had no idea the restaurant was closing until they showed up for their shifts last week, only to be met with a sign on the door that said the location was permanently closed.

The employees are upset by the lack of notice, saying if they had been told beforehand, they could have already been looking for new jobs.

"It's like, we're scheduled to work, we got bills and stuff to pay, and it was just a whole bunch of commotion," employee Daundre Frazier said.

"We could have been looking for another job," he continued. "That would have been the courtesy for them."

Frazier said when he showed up for his shift on Nov. 11, he saw his other coworkers cleaning out the store. They told him they also didn't find out about the closure until they showed up for their shifts that day.

Cashayliana Jones was a new hire at the Arby's and was supposed to be starting this week.

"I was really confused, like did anyone know about this or did it come out of the blue?" Jones asked.

Frazier said the employees were not told about the closure ahead of time, but later received a letter from management that is dated Nov. 6.

The letter said if employees stayed and helped clean out the store, they could transfer to another Arby's location.

"They didn't let us know [ahead of time] because they didn't think we would come in and do the cleaning duties they needed us to do, but they never gave us that option," Frazier said.

WOIO reached out to Arby's for comment twice but hasn't heard back.
