Thibodaux man sentenced in child sexual abuse material possession case

THIBODAUX, La. ( WGNO ) — A Thibodaux man was sentenced in a child sexual abuse material case on Wednesday, Sept. 18.

According to U.S. Attorney Duane Evans, 28-year-old Simon Paul Adams was sentenced after pleading guilty to possessing child sexual abuse material.

Court documents state that the FBI began investigating the alleged sharing of files that involved the sexual exploitation of children on Oct. 15, 2022, Dec. 14, 2022, and Jan. 19, 2023, from an IP address connected to Adams' Thibodaux home.

In a July 2023 search of Adams' home, agents said they recovered devices with files that contained inappropriate images and videos "depicting the sexual victimization and abuse of children."

According to court documents, agents said a search of the devices recovered yielded about five photos and 70 videos that showed the sexual victimization of children and more than 30 photos and 1,500 videos depicting the sexual abuse of children.

On Wednesday, a judge sentenced Adams to 60 months in prison with 10 years of supervised release, compliance with sex offender registration requirements. Adams was also ordered to pay $18,000 in restitution to the victims and a $100 mandatory fee.
