PORTLAND, Ore. ( KOIN ) — Another sunfish has washed up on the Oregon Coast, the third reported in Clatsop County since June, officials said.

The fish, a Mola Mola, which washed up at Hug Point is just under seven feet long, which is the average size of sunfish in the area, according to the Seaside Aquarium.

In total, the aquarium said that three sunfish have washed up recently. Two of them were Mola mola, an ocean sunfish, and one was a Mola tecta, a hoodwinker sunfish, which caused a stir because it was the first one to wash up in Oregon.

The Seaside Aquarium clarified that although it was the first Mola tecta to wash up, the species was only recently described and designated as a new species.

The recent sunfish has been dead for a while, officials said, but it can still be found on the beach for anyone who wants to see it.
