This Hwy. 50 exit into West Sacramento will be closed for 2 weeks. Here’s how to get around it

Getting into Sacramento from Yolo County will be a slog for the next two weeks.

Traffic delays on the eastbound Highway 50 portion of the Capital City Freeway in West Sacramento are expected through Oct. 16 as Caltrans and contractors continue pavement work in Yolo County, requiring the closure of the ramp to Jefferson Boulevard and the unsigned state highway that carries the Tower Bridge into downtown.

The offramp, the last exit in Yolo County before the freeway crosses the Sacramento River, were closed Saturday night and could remain closed over the next 13 days as part of the Interstate 80 Pavement Rehabilitation Project, Caltrans District 3 announced.

The exit ramps to Jefferson Boulevard and "Downtown Sacramento," known legislatively as State Route 275 but better known as the Tower Bridge Gateway, will get a new surface as part of the $280 million project that includes $47 million from Senate Bill 1, funded by the gas tax from 2017's Road Repair and Accountability Act.

District 3 officials recommend commuters coming into Sacramento to stay on Highway 50 into Sacramento and detour off at the Fifth Street exit. For those trying to get to Sutter Health Park and other West Sacramento destinations are encouraged to get back on the freeway going westbound on the freeway and exiting on the westbound Jefferson Street exit.

The freeway's speed limit is also reduced to 55 mph through the work zone, Caltrans said.
