'This is business': Brady Oliveira and Bombers zero in on Grey Cup victory
As the Winnipeg Blue Bombers prepare for the Grey Cup game this Sunday, running back Brady Oliveira, a Winnipeg native, is reminding his teammates to keep their focus amidst the distractions.
Speaking to reporters at a press conference earlier this week, Oliveira emphasized the importance of maintaining their usual routine to stay ready for the championship showdown against the Toronto Argonauts.
"Keep your preparation the same," said Oliveira, adding that this consistency has been essential in keeping the team grounded and focused on their ultimate goal. "We're on a business trip, and we're not done yet. We've got one more game to accomplish."
Reflecting on the challenges posed by the Toronto Argonauts, Oliveira acknowledged their strong defence. He praised their defensive line and linebacker, Wynton McManis, as tough opponents who will make Winnipeg work for every yard.
"It's going to be a battle again... a grind," he noted, pointing to the importance of thorough preparation to secure the win.
Oliveira also spoke about the significance of last season's disappointment and the motivation it provides. The Bombers have been to the Grey Cup the previous four seasons in a row, but have lost the big game two years in a row.
"We all know what happened the last two Grey Cups, and we want to change that outcome," he said. "It's about preparing to the best of our ability, so on game day, we leave nothing to chance."
With his focus on peak performance, Oliveira emphasized his recovery routine, saying, "I don't joke around when I say I live in the ice bath." His dedication to recovery, including getting at least eight hours of sleep, has helped him stay fresh and effective throughout the season.
The Bombers are gearing up to bring the Grey Cup back to Winnipeg, driven by the lessons learned from past losses and Oliveira's determination to see the mission through.
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Toronto Argonauts will face off in the 111th Grey Cup on Sunday, Nov. 17, at 5 p.m.
The Argos won both regular season meetings between the teams, with a 16-14 victory on July 27 and 14-11 on Oct. 11.
