This is where New Jerseyans feel the most love.NEW JERSEY — Passion Puddle on the Rutgers University campus is the most romantic place in New Jersey, according to a recently released list.
While the spot isn't an actual puddle, the small pond between the Cook and Douglass campuses off Red Oak Lane in New Brunswick is a favorite location for young lovebirds, according to the university.
A recent list by Travel + Leisure compiled the most romantic places in every state. Writers agreed Passion Puddle was worth a visit.
"College sweethearts can spend their time at Rutgers' Passion Puddle, the site of legendary collegiate romance lore," according to Travel + Leisure writers. "According to Rutgers tradition, anyone who walks around the pond three times with their lover will marry them — so be sure that your pond-side strolling is done with the right person."
The lore behind Passion Puddle is more specific. According to the university, legend says if a male student from Cook College and a Douglass College woman held hands and walked around the pond, they would be married and live happily ever after.
In 2015, Passion Puddle was also named one of the top 25 most romantic spots on an American college campus by College Ranker. It ranked sixth on the list.
