THOMASVILLE — A Thomasville man won a $230,858 jackpot after buying a $1 Cash 5 ticket this week.

Nelson Edwards bought his Quick Pick ticket Tuesday from Speed Mart on Hasty School Road in Thomasville. His ticket matched all five numbers in the drawing to win the jackpot.

The odds of matching numbers on all five balls are 1 in 962,598, according to the N.C. Education Lottery.

Edwards claimed his prize at lottery headquarters in Raleigh on Wednesday and, after required federal and state tax withholdings, took home $165,064.

Cash 5 is one of six lottery games in North Carolina where players have the option of buying their tickets at a retail location, with Online Play through the lottery's website or with the N.C. Lottery Official Mobile App.
