Those political yard signs don’t belong in the recycling bin, Santa Clara officials tell public

s the campaign season draws to a close, Santa Cruz is reminding the community that political and other yard signs don't belong in blue recycling bins.
"Most yard signs are made of mixed materials that are incompatible with the recycling collection system," the city said in a press release Friday.
Signs are typically made of paperboard, corrugated plastic and metal wire stands, according to the city.
"The metal stands pose a serious problem in the city's recycling facility as they become tangled or jammed in the rotating machinery," the city said. "The plastic signs are not accepted in the curbside cart because they are made of rigid plastic."
Plastic signs and metal stands should be saved for reuse, dropped off at the city's Resource Recovery Facility, or put in the trash, the city said.
