BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – A new boutique specially curated by three young entrepreneurs is hosting its grand opening this weekend.

Simple Luxuries is opening its doors at 168 Clinton Street in Binghamton on Saturday. The store is owned by 10-year-old Jordyn Durham, 12-year-old Taylor Durham, and 15-year-old Tristen Durham.

Simple Luxuries offers products such as jewelry, hats, sunglasses, Stanley accessories, Croc charms, stuffed animals, and more. The kids source the products themselves, handpicking out every piece of inventory.

Before opening, the kids recognized a need for a fun and unique store in the area that anyone of any age could enjoy.

Jordyn says she knows people will like shopping at Simple Luxuries.

"Sometimes when we have a girl's day or something or all want to go out, there's not a lot of stores anymore around here that sell a lot of this stuff that all people would like, not just girls. So, we wanted to make sure that boys and girls can enjoy a store," said Jordyn.

The Durham's got the idea for the store while watching a game.

Their parents are entrepreneurs and helped them get set up however, the kids did all of the work from there including designing and setting up the store, hiring and scheduling, and managing the POS system.

Tristen and Taylor say they've had a lot of long nights while trying to prepare the store. But they say learning about business at such a young age is very important to them.

"A lot of parents nowadays kind of overprotect their child and something like giving their kids the space to be able to do this and make their own decisions in life teaches them the life lessons and it just hits a lot more than being told a life lesson and not being able to truly understand how not to get there or how to get to the place you want to be," said Tristen.

"My favorite process of this has been being able to learn about business with family members and being able to do this with the people I love the most. So, I really enjoy doing it with them," said Taylor.

Simple Luxuries will host a ribbon cutting on Saturday at 11 a.m. State Senator Lea Webb will be in attendance.
