Thunder standout Josh Giddey could lose a ton in sponsorship money, as the NBA looks into allegations of an improper relationship w/ a minor

Oklahoma City Thunder guard Josh Giddey could be at risk of losing a large amount of money, as the NBA conducts an investigation into social media allegations that he had an inappropriate relationship with a minor. Although no legal action has been taken, Giddey's most lucrative sponsorship deal is reportedly in jeopardy of being severed.

His $40 million agreement with Weet-Bix, a popular Australian cereal brand, could be on shaky grounds based on the company's latest online activity. Weet-Bix removed Giddey from its social media accounts, while also providing a brief statement on the investigation.

“We are obviously aware of news surrounding Josh Giddey and are waiting for facts to be confirmed,” a spokesperson told Code Sports, via the New York Post's Jenna Lemoncelli. Weet-Bix's marketing change is especially conspicuous given that other Australian athletes like No. 12-ranked tennis player Alex de Minaur remain displayed in online promotional campaigns.

The accusations first became known to the public last week, via a since-deleted, anonymous social media post. The 21-year-old has continued to play in Thunder games , as everyone waits for the NBA to reveal its findings. Giddey and the organization have refused to comment on the investigation.

The No. 6 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft has taken a clear step back offensively with the addition of impressive rookie center Chet Holmgren and is averaging 12.1 points per game on 42.9 percent shooting. Even so, Josh Giddey is a deft playmaker and a key part of OKC's young core. ClutchPoints will update you on the situation as more information is made available.
