Time to shop! Angel Trees are up around Central Kentucky

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Angel Trees are now around town!

It's a beloved program that the Salvation Army organizes every year.

Picking an angel off the tree ensures that every child will have a gift with their name on it on Christmas morning.

There are 1,600 tags on the trees, which means there are 5,000 kids to shop for between Fayette, Jessamine, and Scott Counties.

For the next few weeks you'll find about 10 Angel Trees up around Central Kentucky. Caramanda's is a new location for the Angel Tree this year.

Each has dozens of tags with the children's names, ages, and wish lists.

Every year, the Salvation Army's Angel Tree program helps provide Christmas gifts to hundreds of thousands of children nationwide.

The biggest change you'll notice this year is that if a family has multiple children, they will all be on one tag. If you choose a tag with more than one child, you're choosing to shop for all of them.

Kendall Anderson with the Salvation Army said they're excited about this change and to see people have fun participating.

"When you are shopping for that family, you can also put in things that can be family gifts, such as board games or something for them to share and enjoy over the holiday season," said Anderson. "It's just heartwarming to see how many people in this town take time to go shop for these children who would not have gifts under the tree otherwise."

The tags will be out until December 1, and all unwrapped toys should be turned in by December 2.
