ASHLEY: Holy Rosary Post 274, Catholic War Veterans of Newtown, and the Home Association will conduct the annual Easter egg hunt on Saturday at 10 a.m. on the post grounds, 175 Old Ashley Road, for children, infant to age 9 included. Special prizes will also be awarded.
Volunteer workers are asked to report at the post at 9 a.m.
HUGHESTOWN: The Hughestown Hose Company will hold its annual Lenten clam chowder sale. The cost is $5 for a quart and can be picked up Thursday or Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the fire hall, 30 Center St.
The department will also conduct its yearly fish dinner on Good Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the fire hall. Pizza will be available for the children. Takeouts will be available. Tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for children 12 and younger.
KINGSTON: Pittston Hospital Nurses Alumnae spring dinner will take place on April 24 at 6 p.m. at The Gallery at Pierce Plaza, 517 Pierce St. The speaker for the event will be Jill Garrett, WNEP-TV health beat anchor.
LEHMAN TWP.: Penn State Wilkes-Barre will host “Poetry at Hayfield” featuring Patricia Jabbeh Wesley, Ph.D., on April 11 at 3 p.m. Wesley earned her master’s degree from Indiana University and her doctorate from Western Michigan University. She has won several fellowships including the World Bank Fellowship.
The event will be held in Room 105 of Hayfield House and is free and open to the public.
NANTICOKE: The Hanover Recreation Club of Nanticoke will hold its annual egg hunt rain or shine on Saturday at the Club grounds located at 318-320 Front St. The hunt is open to all children up to age 12. Children participating will assemble at 10 a.m. at the corners of Pine and Jones streets.
Hanover Fire Company 4 will lead the parade along with Nanticoke Police and the Easter Bunny.
SHAVERTOWN: Huntsville United Methodist Church, 2355 Huntsville Road, will hold a chicken dinner April 14 from 3:30 to 6 p.m. Takeouts only. Donation is $8.
Dinners include half a baked chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, cranberry sauce, salad, rolls and dessert.
On April 20 and 21, the church will sponsor a rummage and bake sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.
The church is located near Huntsville Dam and Chase Corners. For information about either event call 675-3375 or 675-1937.
SHICKSHINNY: On April 14, the Northwest All-Stars will face off against the stars of WBRE-TV and WYOU-TV in a charity basketball game. Community leaders and alumni from Northwest will play news personalities from both WBRE and WYOU.
The game will played in the Northwest High School gymnasium and tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. The cost is $5 for adults and $3 for students. Refreshments will be available for sale along with a 50/50 raffle.
All of the money raised will benefit the FLT building project in Shickshinny. Both the Historical and Preservation Society of the Greater Shickshinny Area and the Business Association of the Greater Shickshinny Area co-own the building and are in the process of raising money to renovate the building. It will be a community center and museum to display the historical artifacts of the area.
