DANVILLE: Children’s Miracle Network at Geisinger will be one of the participating non-profit organizations in Raise the Region 2014.

The First Community Foundation Partnership of Pennsylvania holds Raise the Region in an effort to help nonprofit organizations’ fundraising efforts. The event begins at 6 p.m. on Wednesday and runs until 11:59 p.m. on Thursday.

The 30-hour event is held online at www.raisetheregion.org. Donors are asked to visit the website, choose Children’s Miracle Network at Geisinger and make an online gift. The running totals will be displayed online throughout the day.

The funds raised by this event will help to provide pediatric equipment, programs and services at Janet Weis Children’s Hospital and throughout Geisinger Health System.

HANOVER TWP.: Village Pet Supplies and Gifts, 2301 Sans Souci Parkway, is hosting a discussion on pet nutrition at noon on March 22. Topics will include pet food ingredients, human grade versus pet grade, pet food allergies and more. A question-and-answer session will be held and staff members will be available to discuss the nutritional needs of individual pets.

WILKES-BARRE: Volunteers in Medicine (VIM) and students from Wilkes University’s Nesbitt School of Pharmacy and the Advocacy Alliance are offering two outreach sessions to educate community members and assist with sign-ups for the Affordable Care Act.

Sessions will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. today and March 18 at Volunteers in Medicine, 190 N. Pennsylvania Avenue. Walk-ins are welcome but appointments can be made by calling 570-970-2864.

Attendees should bring Social Security numbers or document information for immigrants with satisfactory status, employer and income information for everyone in the household and federal tax information. Assistance will be given in determining eligibility for tax credits that can be applied towards healthcare plan premiums on the marketplace, reviewing marketplace options, and help signing up for an insurance plan that day.

Those without healthcare insurance after March 31 may be assessed a penalty of $95 or 1 percent of income, whichever is higher, for the 2014 tax year. After March 31, the next open enrollment period for Marketplace Healthcare insurance is November 15 through January 15, 2015.
