I AGREE WITH THE person who called in saying that Paterno is overrated, but
he made a mistake about Michigan. Michigan won 32 games in three years, not
two. And they are 8-1 against Wisconsin, Penn State and Ohio State, but in
three years, not two. Carr also has an outstanding record against teams that
are ranked in the Top 10. Joe Paterno has a lousy record against ranked teams.

WHEN ONE READS articles in Fan Fare bashing the emotions of kids after
fighting the good fight, I wonder if such commentators ever put a jock strap
on or hitched up their cleats for any competitive event. Further, these kids
have the rest of their lives to right the wrongs of starving masses. What has
the commentator done to solve the problem? Very little I trust. Let them be
kids for a change.
the Wyoming Valley West School Board for their
decision to reopen the coaching job and I don’t mean this in any way
disrespectful to the present list of applicants. By appointing one of them,
the same problems that have hounded the last coach would have continued. Move
out of the area where there are no personal ties. You saw how successful the
football program became under the direction of Jim Cantafio.

ABOUT THE LITTLE Leaguers crying. I think that it’s very good to see
competitive nature in children like that. It’s better than having the kid
sitting on a corner causing trouble. At least they’re showing an interest in
something and care about something. And for the person who said something
about the people starving, it’s not something for the kids to worry about. I
applaud the kids for showing a little sportsmanship.

I’to read in the paper (Tuesday) that Wyoming Area
has opened the position of girls soccer coach and are taking applicants. I
just want to say that that’s an incredible group of kids and need the right
coach to turn them around and have a successful season.

TO THE PERSON WHO commented that Little Leaguers should be reminded that
two-thirds of the world is starving. They’re kids, they shouldn’t have to
worry about these problems. The people who should be worrying about it is us,
who helped create it.

WHY AREN’T THE Pocono Downs results from Tuesday, June 13, in Wednesday’s
paper? Did something happen at the track last night? I’d appreciate it if you
gave an answer. Thanks.

EDITOR’S NOTE: We received the results uncharacteristically late from the
track and were unable to get them in by deadline. Sorry for the inconvenience.

ohn Rocker is needed by the Braves, it’s not such a
big problem anymore that he tells the truth.

I SEE THE TIMES Leader is having the same coverage for Legion baseball that
they did for high school. None. It’s a shame, that this paper has covered
American Legion and high school baseball for 50-some years in an outstanding
manner and this last year has been a travesty. This sports page has become a
joke. It’s almost appropriate that you have the comics on the last page.

EDITOR’S NOTE: It’s unfair to say we had no high school baseball coverage.
We simply cut back on the box score listings. As for Legion coverage, we
continue to hope the coaches will report the scores. Call Tom Johanningmeier
if you want to discuss this further, 831-7329.

THIS `FIVE EX-PENS face NHL expansion draft’ and they’re saying Bonvie is
one of the available guys and he’s one of the predicted ones to go. Give me a
break. The guy’s a minor league star, he’s not an NHL star. No one’s going to
pick him. But hey, as a Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins fan, we’re happy to
have him back next year.

EDITOR’S NOTE: We don’t think you’ll find too many NHL stars available for
the expansion draft other than those who are in the twilight of their careers.
