Toddler, 3, fighting for life in hospital after being hit by car in Melbourne’s south-east

A three-year-old child is fighting for life after being hit by a car on a major thoroughfare in Melbourne's south-east.

Emergency services were called to Heatherton Road, near the intersection of James Cook Drive, in Endeavour Hills about 8.30am on Thursday, following reports a child had been struck by vehicle.

Ambulance Victoria said the child was taken to Dandenong hospital in a critical condition.

Police described the child as a pedestrian. They said the driver of the vehicle – a 24-year-old Endeavour Hills man – stopped at the scene and has been speaking with officers.

No charges have been laid over the incident.

The exact circumstances surrounding the collision are yet to be established and investigations remain ongoing, they said.
