The top high school football players in the Greensboro area are on the verge of announcing where they will pursue their college careers.

Grimsley quarterback Faizon Brandon is 247Sports' No. 1 football recruiting prospect in the nation for 2026. Brandon, who has 25 Division I offers, has narrowed his decision to Alabama, LSU, NC State and Tennessee, and plans to announce his decision on Aug. 3. The 6-foot-4, 190-pounder completed 69% of his passes for 3,026 yards, 36 touchdowns and three interceptions in 2023.

"These schools are at the top because of the way they're recruiting me and how they show me a lot of love," Brandon told recruiting publication On3 in an interview. "They have shown me that they can develop quarterbacks and that has been a thing that has caught my eye about all four of those schools. All the quarterbacks they've sent to the league (NFL) are impressive. That's definitely something I'm looking for in a school and these schools have that."

Brandon's teammate, Bryce Davis , a 6-foot-4, 240-pound senior edge defender, is listed by 247Sports Composite as the No. 63 overall prospect in the nation for the 2025 class, No. 9 for defensive linemen and No. 3 overall in North Carolina.

Davis had 92 tackles, 22 for loss, and 12 sacks as a sophomore, but his junior season was shortened because of a knee injury in the team's second game against Rolesville. In week one, he had 12 tackles, five for loss, three sacks, a forced fumble and an interception against Mount Tabor. In week two, he had five tackles prior to getting hurt.

In May, Davis told On3 that on July 20, he would decide between Clemson, Duke and Georgia.

"It's going to be that gut feeling and prayer that's really going to do it for me," Davis said.

Nasir Newkirk, a 6-foot-2, 195-pound wide receiver from Dudley, said Monday that his announcement is scheduled for 1 p.m. on July 13 at the Triad Basketball Academy in Greensboro. He didn't say which schools were tops on his list.

Newkirk, a senior who can bench press 300 pounds-plus, is a 3-star recruit by 247 Sports Composite and has received 19 Division I offers, including Georgia and Notre Dame. He earned first team all-area honors last season after making 51 catches for 1,123 yards for an average of 22 yards per reception and having a single-season school-record 16 touchdowns catches. He has recently taken official visits to Duke, Virginia and Virginia Tech.

For the class of 2025, the early period for signing a national letter of intent for a Division I football program is from Dec. 4 to Dec. 6, 2024 and the regular period for Division I is from Feb. 5, 2025 to April 1 of that year. For Division II, the regular period extends to Aug. 1, 2025.

The signing periods for the 2026 class are not listed on nationalletter.org .
