Totes of Hope with Wyoming Foodbank
Did you know that children eat up to 50% of their total daily calories at school? But when school is out of session, families who rely on school meals have to find ways to fill that gap.
Through our signature Totes of HopeTM Program, we meet our neighbors where they are. Recently, our team partnered with Fort Washakie School on Wind River Indian Reservation and Buffalo Youth Nation Project, a Native-run nonprofit committed to serving the Native/Indigenous population of the Great Plains region. We worked together to enroll Fort Washakie School in our Totes of HopeTM Program.
Each Friday ahead of the weekend, students are sent home with a tote full of enough food for seven meals. These totes are made up of shelf-stable and fresh food, recipes for the whole family, notes of encouragement, and other preparation tips to help our neighbors make the most of the items in their tote. This school year, we are providing enough food to serve 150 kids each week — that’s over 5,100 Totes of HopeTM!

Community foundation grant expands care for Converse County
Our newest social worker has joined the care team at Central Wyoming Hospice and Transitions, due in part to a generous grant from the Wyoming Community Foundation. Douglas resident Desirae Laird will be serving our patients in Converse County, and she says it’s important to her to be able to help her friends and neighbors.
“I am very excited to work for an organization whose primary focus is patient care,” she says, “and to serve the community I live in.” Expanding our team in Converse County allows more people to stay home with hospice services, and the Wyoming Community Foundation’s $10,000 grant for hiring and training has helped make that possible.
