Tracking the Tropics: Chances for development decrease in Caribbean

L.Thompson3 months ago

The NBC 2 Hurricane Tracking Team is monitoring two areas for potential development. The first is a non-tropical area of low pressure expected to develop off the southeastern Florida coast. While this is unlikely to develop, the disturbance will still produce heavy rain and gusty winds across south Florida.

The second area is a cluster of disorganized showers and thunderstorms in the southern Caribbean. Despite development, this will bring heavy rain and gusty winds to Cuba, Haiti, the Dominican Republic and Jamaica.

An approaching front will keep the disturbance away from the U.S., following a track toward the northeast. This is a typical pattern for tropical developments throughout the end of hurricane season. During November, we see more significant swings in the jet stream. This scoops up systems in the Caribbean and off to the northeast in the western Atlantic.

There are no active storms, but count on the NBC 2 Hurricane Team to keep you informed. As we take on the final weeks of hurricane season, this season has run above average despite the influence of the El Niño climate pattern, which typically favors a quieter Atlantic hurricane season.
