Traffic Advisory: Center City Road Closures Scheduled for November 8 Weekend

– There are several special events taking place on Saturday, November 9 and Sunday, November 10 that will cause road closures in the Center City area. Traffic delays can be expected. Motorists are advised to avoid the area by using alternate routes and allow for extra driving time in areas near the event. Full details on the closure can be found below.

Saturday, November 9 Rocky Run 5K and 10 Mile Run/Walk

The Rocky Run 5K, 10 Mile, and 13.1 Italian Stallion Challenge is an opportunity for participants to channel their inner Rocky and show the world that they can go the distance!

The race will start on Benjamin Franklin Parkway in front of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Please note the race finishes in front of the Philadelphia Museum of Art and does not go up the stairs. The 5K begins at 7 a.m. and the 10 Mile begins at 8 a.m.

The Rocky Run is a rain-or-shine event. In the event of inclement weather (e.g., lightning) or other conditions that may affect the safety and health of participants, race officials reserve the right to delay, postpone, or cancel the race. For more information visit rockyrun.com .

Road Closures

The following streets will be closed from 6 a.m. on Saturday, November 9:

  • Spring Garden Street between Pennsylvania Avenue and 24th Street
  • Kelly Drive between Eakins Oval and Brewery Hill Drive
  • Lansdowne Drive between Girard Avenue and Sweet Briar Drive
  • Sweet Briar Drive between Lansdowne Drive and MLK Drive
  • Greenland Drive between MLK Bridge and Chamounix Drive
  • Ford Road between Chamounix Drive and Greenland Drive
  • Chamounix Drive between Ford Road and Greenland Drive
  • MLK Drive between Falls Bridge and Sweet Briar Drive
  • All streets (with the exception of Eakins Oval and MLK Drive) are scheduled to be reopened no later than 12 p.m. on Saturday, November 9.

    Eakins Oval will be fully open to traffic by 2 p.m.

    MLK Drive will remain closed as part of its regular weekend closure for recreation schedule .

    Public Transportation SEPTA Bus Routes 7, 32 , 38, 43, 48 and 49 will be detoured from their normal routes beginning at 5:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 9 through approximately 2 p.m.

    Sunday, November 10

    Philadelphia Veterans Parade

    The 10th Annual Philadelphia Veterans Parade will kick off at noon on Sunday, November 10, and feature more than 100 organizations, over 4,000 participants, and over 50 Veteran Service Organizations.

    The parade begins at 21st and Benjamin Franklin Parkway, continues up the Parkway and ends just past the Philadelphia Museum of Art at Eakins Oval where the Veterans Festival will take place and continue until 4 p.m.

    The Veterans Festival is a family-friendly event featuring food trucks, live music, and resources including job recruitment, healthcare providers, educational opportunities, financial assistance and workshops.

    The parade will be broadcast live on 6ABC, 6abc.com, and 6abc Mobile App from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m.

    Road Closures

  • Eakins Oval
  • The following streets will be closed beginning at 8 a.m. on Sunday, November 10 for the parade starting area:

  • Benjamin Franklin Parkway between 18th Street and 21st Street
  • The following streets will be closed beginning at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, November 10, and will reopen when the parade concludes:

  • Benjamin Franklin Parkway between 21st Street and Eakins Oval (Parade will go around the north side of Eakins Oval and end on the south side)
  • Parking Restrictions

    The above-listed streets will be posted as "Temporary No Parking" zones on Sunday, November 10. Motorists must adhere to "Temporary No Parking" signs. Vehicles parked in these locations during posted hours will be relocated. If you believe your car has been relocated, call the police district of the area where your car was parked.

    Additional road closures and parking restrictions may be necessary in the vicinity of the event venue as dictated by conditions. Residents and visitors should always obey posted signs and instructions from the Philadelphia Police Department.

    Public Transportation

    SEPTA Bus Routes 7, 31, 32, 33, 38, 44, 48, 49, 124, and 125 will be detoured from their normal routes beginning at 5:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 10 through approximately 5 p.m.

    Tun Tavern Groundbreaking and Block Party

    The Tun Tavern Groundbreaking and Marine Corps Birthday Block Party will kick off at 10 a.m. on Sunday, November 10 and feature live music and performances by the United States Marine Drum & Bugle Corps, family-friendly activities, and food and beverages.

    The groundbreaking ceremony will take place at 10 a.m., followed by the Block Party that will take place and continue until 6 p.m.

    Public Safety Information Throughout the weekend events, the City will provide law-enforcement support, traffic control, and emergency medical services for the event and in the surrounding vicinity.

    Attendees should never leave bags or other items unattended. In the event of an emergency or to report a suspicious person, activity, or item (backpack, package, container, etc.), notify a police officer immediately or call 9-1-1. Do not try to open, move, cover or touch a suspicious item.
