Traffic Alert: Crashes in rain delay morning commute

CINCINNATI (WXIX) - Interstate 75 is moving near downtown Cincinnati again after a Rumpke garbage truck crashed into the concrete median in the rain earlier Tuesday, closing most of both sides of the highway for about two hours as the morning commute began.

The Rumpke driver was taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries shortly after the crash was reported at 4:51 a.m., according to Cincinnati police and a Rumpke spokesman.

Several other crashes were reported on the highways and major roads.

Most if not all have now cleared.

  • NB I-75 stalled semi in the middle of the highway near Western Hills Viaduct in Cincinnati
  • SB I-75 after the Norwood Lateral in Cincinnati
  • SB I-75 after I-74 in Cincinnati
  • Winchell Avenue crash at NB I-75 ramp across from Ezzard Charles incident in Cincinnati
  • NB I-71/75 near 5th Street exit in Covington, before the Brent Spence Bridge
  • SB I-75 past Cincinnati-Dayton Road in West Chester Township. The left two lanes were blocked.
  • SB I-75 at Tylersville Road in West Chester Township
  • SB Colerain Avenue near Struble Road in Colerain Township. The right lane was blocked after a vehicle hydroplaned into a guardrail at 6 a.m., dispatchers say.
  • The heaviest downpours came down earlier this morning and now rain will taper into the afternoon ahead of rain and gusty winds Wednesday followed by snow Thursday, according to the FOX19 NOW Weather Team.
