Tramon Mark injury update: Rodney Terry reveals severity of Texas guard's ankle
will be down one of its top transfer portal additions for a while, head coach Rodney Terry announced on Thursday. Tramon Mark is "out indefinitely," Terry revealed, according to Inside Texas .
Mark is dealing with an ankle injury. It forced him to miss the opener against Ohio State earlier this week.
Tramon Mark came to Texas this offseason after previously playing at Houston and Arkansas.
He averaged a career-high 16.2 points, to go along with 4.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game in 2023-24 for the Razorbacks.
Mark's specialty is scoring, and the Longhorns will be thankful once he gets back on the court. The class of 2020 prospect was ranked as a top-100 recruit in the country coming out of high school, according to the On3 Industry rankings .
With Tramon Mark sidelined, Texas dropped its opener to Ohio State 80-72. The Longhorns will look to get back on track on Friday when they host Houston Christian.
Tre Johnson breaks Kevin Durant freshman debut scoring record vs. Ohio StateTre Johnson kept Texas in the game against Ohio State with Tramon Mark unable to go. The talented freshman broke a record once held by Kevin Durant , one of the school's greatest-ever players.
Johnson finished with 29 points in the loss to the Buckeyes, the most ever by a Texas freshman making his debut.
Johnson was 10 of 20 from the field and 5 of 10 from 3-point range. Back when Durant made his debut, he scored 20 points against Alcorn State . The future NBA star made 50% of his three-point attempts, too and finished 8-13 from the field.
Johnson had quite a different level of competition, though, going up against a high-major team.
While at SEC Media Days in Birmingham, Terry was comparing Johnson to Durant, somebody he coached during his lone college campaign. The big praise from his head coach is already being shown a game into the season.
"He's a super competitor. I got a chance to coach Kevin Durant for one year at Texas, and he and Kevin have a lot of things in common – cut from the same cloth in terms of incredible work ethic," Terry said. "He's a guy that we have to literally push out of the gym because he's in the gym 24/7 – much like Kevin was."
