FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - Trine University unveiled a new esports facility Thursday which is set to expand their esports roster and hold competitions between other teams and universities.

Students at Trine can earn a minor in "Game Design and Esports" by taking multiple courses the school offers, such as History of Gaming, Esports Administration, Esports Analytics, etc.

Alex Anderson, a sophomore at Trine, is currently on track for the minor. He says, "It's something that they're obviously trying to get their students informed about and committed to. It's just really awesome to see that they're adding a whole career space, a space where we can not only feel comfortable, play comfortably, but we can also compete."

Director of esports, Jeremy Goossens, says their esports program is now part of the academic department.

"Our students come up here and they learn a ton of new schools, one of them is livestreaming. It's hard to find someone with those skills. With a place like that people can come in and learn skills like that because we have a nice live-streaming studio," explains Goossens.

Anderson said seeing a named university commit to a space that's large enough where it accommodates not one, but multiple teams, means so much to him.

"I'm hoping that the teams we have now will set a foundation for what it'll be like in the future," says Anderson.
