Trolley Service Resumes on Blue Line in Chula Vista Following Collision

J.Mitchell1 hr ago

Trolley service resumed along the Blue Line in Chula Vista early Wednesday, but with limits as Metropolitan Transit System authorities worked on repairs.

A collision between a trolley car and a truck injured 17 people in the midst of rush hour Tuesday evening, causing damage that required track repairs.

Despite the damage, the southbound Blue Line began limited service Wednesday.

"Trolleys are now operating through the impacted area between H St and Palm," MTS tweeted from its X account.

But service frequency was initially limited to every 15 minutes rather than the normal 7.5 minutes, authorities said. A bus shuttle took passengers to all impacted stations as the early-morning commute began, but by about 5:45 a.m. the limited service had started.

Riders, authorities said, should "still expect some delays as the system recovers."

Chula Vista fire and police personnel responded to the scene Tuesday. Of the 17 people injured, three suffered major trauma. Of the remaining 14, 11 were transported to local hospitals while three were treated and released at the scene, according to the fire department.

MTS is handling the investigation into the incident.
