Trump doubles support among Black voters in Wisconsin compared to 2016, exit poll shows
Former President Donald Trump has doubled his support among Black voters in Wisconsin, according to the results of an exit poll conducted by NBC News.
Trump marked major improvements despite the majority of Wisconsin Black voters still backing Vice President Kamala Harris, the poll showed.
"This year Trump is pulling about 20% of the Black vote, versus 78% for Harris," NBC News correspondent Dasha Burns wrote via X. "Four years ago, Trump won only about 8% of Black voters in the Badger State."
Trump made multiple visits to the Badger State throughout his campaign, including a trip to Green Bay where he was joined by former Packers quarterback Brett Favre. Vice President Kamala Harris also made repeated appearances in Wisconsin, including a star-studded rally in Madison.
Polling released in October found Harris was underperforming with Black voters in Georgia, another critical battleground state. President Joe Biden won 88% support from Black Georgia voters in 2020, though poll results indicated Harris was lagging 13 points behind her former running mate.
The Harris campaign made an aggressive appeal to Black voters in the wake of lackluster polling. The campaign announced a proposal for 1 million forgivable loans for Black-owned businesses, valued at up to $20,000 each.
Reacting to the plan was former Georgia congressional candidate Barrington Martin, who condemned the racial implications of such an offer.
"The Harris campaign wants to give me a forgivable loan because I'm a black man, but I swear I thought it was illegal to give or even deny loans on the basis of race in America?" he asked. "We are a lost nation full of idiotic, petulant children masquerading as adults."
