Trump gained ground in Massachusetts during election

BOSTON (WWLP) – While Kamala Harris won Massachusetts' electoral college votes, Trump still gained ground in the Bay State.

State leaders react to Ballot Question 2 being passed

Between the 2020 Presidential Election and President-Elect Donald Trump's victory this week, Trump appears to have improved his standing in almost every single Massachusetts city and town. Almost all Massachusetts ballots have been counted, and as of now, Trump received 1.21 million votes, exceeding his 2020 vote count of 1.7 million in 2020.

Meanwhile, Harris is on track to fail to match Biden's 2.38 million votes in 2020. While no political analysts expected Massachusetts to send their electoral votes to Trump, he gained significant ground in Massachusetts. The redder areas of the state are concentrated on the South Shore and in Central and Western Massachusetts

Democrat leaders, including Governor Healey and Attorney General Andrea Campbell, have called for a peaceful transition of power when Trump takes office in January. The most decisive Trump victories in western Massachusetts happened in Granville and Blandford, where Trump earned over 60% of the total votes.

The most decisive Harris wins took place in Northampton, Amherst, and Pelham, where Kamala Harris took over 85% of the total votes in all three townships.

Areas where the two party's candidates were neck in neck include East Longmeadow, West Springfield, and Granby. While some states are still counting their ballots, Trump is expected to win the popular vote in addition to the electoral college.

Across the country, overall voter turnout is significantly lower than it was in 2020.
