Tucson band to play 39th Veterans Day concert

Arizona Symphonic Winds will continue its nearly four-decade tradition of celebrating Tucson veterans with a special concert.

The ensemble's Veterans Day concert at Catalina Foothills Auditorium, 4300 E. Sunrise Drive, on Monday, Nov. 11, will include patriotic odes from "The Star-Spangled Banner" to Sousa's "The White Rose March" to honor military members past and present.

The Winds will be led by founder and Music Director László Veres, who started the group in 1986 and continues, at age 87, to lead it in its fall and spring concert series at Udall Park.

This is the 39th year that the Winds will perform a Veterans Day concert.

Olivia Minji Yang, a 9-year-old violinist, will solo on Italian composer Vittorio Monti's 1904 folkloric piece "Csardas," based on a Hungarian folk dance.

Also on the program: Gershwin's "Porgy and Bess"; John Williams' "Lincoln" from the movie of the same name; and a pair of patriotic military odes — "Armed Forces Salute" and "The Stars and Stripes Forever."

Admission to the 2 p.m. concert is free, although donations are accepted.
