A Tucson man was arrested on suspicion of attempted first-degree murder after police say he fed honey to his severely allergic wife, court records show.

Dennis Sanchez, 44, was arrested after his wife told police on Oct. 3 that he concealed honey in ice cream and had fed it to her despite knowing of her severe allergy, according to an interim complaint filed in Pima County Justice Court.

The woman had a severe reaction that evening, but was saved by her dogs. They are trained to retrieve her EpiPen in emergencies, the document said.

The woman also told police that Sanchez had purchased a home in Costa Rica and put it in his name only. And she said her spouse allegedly transferred $100,000 into a Costa Rican bank account.

Sanchez told police he bought the house for both of them and said he gave his wife honey to "help with her allergies."

Sanchez was being held at the Pima County jail without bond.
