North Stafford 2, Freedom (South Riding) 1: Samantha Middleton led the Wolverines to a Region 6B field hockey semifinal win, scoring two goals to in the victory over the Eagles on Tuesday night.Madison Gagnon and Haley Walsh each added one assist, and goalie Shay Prather had seven big saves to help North Stafford (19-3) advances to the Class 6 state tournament.
Sydney Yu had the lone goal for Freedom (10-10) in the fourth quarter, putting the pressure on but the defense of the Wolverines held off the Eagles attack.
North Stafford will travel to Stafford in their fourth match of the season and compete for a regional championship.

Offensively, Madison Patton had two goals, Emry Brewer and Julia Etu each had one, Maddy Pulliam had 3 assists and Hailey Lemke added an assist of her own. Defensively, Kadyn DeLeva had a phenomenal diving tackle to shift momentum in Stafford's favor. The Indians (21-0, 15-0) host North Stafford in the regional championship on Thursday.Fredericksburg Christian 3, Grace Christian 0: Fredericksburg Christian advanced to the VISAA Division II state semifinals with a straight-sets win over Grace Christian on Tuesday, 25-17, 25-16, 25-14.
Abby Redrode led the Eagles (24-2) with 11 kills while Grace Khoury and Scarlett Whittaker each had nine. Chloe Borisuk finished with 34 assists and both Layna Thomas and Bekah Geldart had 11 digs.
The Eagles will play host in the semifinals on Thursday night.
CROSS COUNTRY
Region 4C championships: The Orange boys finished ninth in the meet held at Thomas Jefferson's Poplar Forest, led by Charles Harrison II with a 29th-place finish in a time of 17:59.5.
The Hornets did not have enough runners to get a teams score, but Anastasia Eclipse earned a 74th-place finish in a time of 27:57.9. Abigail Hendrie was the squad's only other runner, finishing 82nd in a time of 29:32.9.
Blacksburg swept both meets, winning the boys with a score of 23 thanks to six of its runners finishing in the top eight. The Bruins' girls totaled 40 points with three runners in the top seven.
Blacksburg's Asher Roach won the boys race with a time of 15:59.5, while Charlottesville's Elaine Pierce won the girls race in a time of 17:54.0.
Orange's other point-scoring boys were Aayde Zbiden-Brassard (41st, 18:33.1), Isaac Canterbury (65th) 19:41.2, Lane Snider (69th, 20:03.7) and Jayden Champbers (78th, 20:52.2).
Monday's resultsKing George 3, Varina 0: King George recorded 30 service aces and 26 kills en route to a 25-11, 25-4, 25-8 Region 4B first round win.
Selena Buckwalter led the way with 11 aces, while Avery Boyd had nine along with 20 assists. Brooke Heim recorded 12 kills, eight aces and two blocks for the Foxes, who will travel to Hanover for the quarterfinals Wednesday.
Caroline 3, Chancellor 1: Riley Forehand amassed 27 kills, 11 digs and three aces to help seventh-seeded Caroline get a Region 4B first round home win.
Kayla Veney totaled 35 assists, 11 digs and two kills, with Sarah Reid adding nine kills and Gracelyn Edwards chipping in 22 digs for the Cavaliers (14-11). who will visit second-seeded Atlee on Wednesday at 6:30.
Chancellor's season ended with an 11-12 record.
