Tuolumne Market Closing At Year’s End

C.Kim24 min ago

Tuolumne County, CA – The Tuolumne Market will close its doors by the end of this year.

The store is located at 18352 Tuolumne Road at the Tuolumne Road North and Cherry Valley Boulevard North intersection in Tuolumne. Store owner Adam Egger tells Clarke Broadcasting it has been a fixture in the community since the early 70's. He has been the owner for the past seven years since he took over the business from his father, John, who bought the shopping center in 1998. Years later, he sold it to the Tuolumne Band of Me-Wuk Indians.

"We're sad that it came to all this," says Egger. "We just want to say thank you for all the years and support that the community has given us over all the years. It's been a pleasure to be one of the small businesses in this great county that we have."

The store employs 25 staff and will be closing on December 31st. Egger shares that he wanted to make sure they got through the holidays to make it easier on his employees. He explained the reason for the closure is that times are tough, explaining, "Margins in the grocery business are just really small. With the economy the way it is, we've been struggling for the last couple years. It's just our overhead is getting higher and our sales are getting lower. It got to a point where it is no longer working. We got to the end of our lease, so we made the decision that we're not going to renew the lease."

Some deals may be had after the Thanksgiving holiday, according to Egger, who says at that time they will begin liquidating assets and discounting prices until the store closes. He released this statement from management and staff to the public regarding the closure:

It is with regret and sadness that we are informing the community that Tuolumne Market will be closing its operations by December 31, 2024. Despite our best efforts to sustain the business, the ongoing market volatility and unforeseen economic circumstances have forced us to make this difficult decision.

We want to extend our deepest appreciation for the community's trust and partnership throughout the years. Thank you to all the amazing customers, clubs, organizations, and other businesses that we have had the opportunity to meet and work with. It has been our pleasure to serve as a small business in Tuolumne County.

Sincerely,

Tuolumne Market
