Two dead after crash involving bus carrying Mississippi Gulf Coast CC band in Pike County

PIKE CO., Miss. (WLOX) - Two people are dead following a crash involving a bus carrying Mississippi Gulf Coast's "Band of Gold" on Highway 98 in Pike County. According to officials with the Mississippi Highway Patrol, the crash took place a few miles west of the Pike County-Walthall County Line. The bus was heading to Summit, Miss. for Thursday night's football game between MGCCC and Southwest Mississippi Community College. The band could not be seen during the opening frames of SMCC's live broadcast of the game. Officials add the wreck claimed the lives of two people in a separate vehicle. Their identities are being withheld pending the notification of next of kin. The cause of the crash is currently unknown. Officials with the college have since released the following statement: We will update this story as we learn more information.
