Two Eden, North Carolina, men have been arrested and a Henry County deputy was injured after a high-speed chase in Henry County on Saturday.

Carlton Lewis Haizlip, 35, of 1820 Ridge Ave., Eden, North Carolina, was charged with eluding police, assault on a law enforcement officer, and larceny of a motor vehicle, and Ronald Haizlip, also of Eden, was charged on an outstanding warrant for eluding police in Eden.

At approximately 2:11 p.m., a deputy recognized a white Buick that was suspected of having been involved in a larceny at a local business, traveling south on Greensboro Road.

The license tags on the vehicle did not match the vehicle, so the deputy initiated a traffic stop, a release stated.

Carlton Haizlip, who was driving the vehicle, accelerated and began driving in a reckless manner, the release stated.

A pursuit began and continued on Greensboro Road at a high rate of speed. Haizlip turned on to Main Street in Ridgeway and then onto Highway 87, headed toward North Carolina.

The deputy performed a Precision Immobilization Technic (P.I.T.) maneuver near the intersection of Highway 87 and Vista View Lane, and Haizlip lost control of the vehicle and slid into an embankment.

The deputy got out of his patrol vehicle and after approaching the Buick, the vehicle rolled forward and pinned the deputy's leg between the Buick and the patrol vehicle.

Haizlip exited the Buick and ran on foot and other deputies arriving on the scene, chased Haizlip, but he got away.

The release did not identify the deputy who was injured, but did state that he was transported to Sovah Health in Martinsville, treated for non-life threatening injuries, and released. He is expected to make a full recovery.

Ronald Haizlip and an unidentified woman were passengers in the vehicle and remained in the vehicle after the crash.

Ronald Haizlip was arrested on the outstanding charge from Eden, and jailed in the Henry County Adult Detention Center, where he is awaiting extradition. The woman was not charged and released.

Investigators determined that Carlton Haizlip stole a 2006 Saturn at 160 Old Leaksville Road in Ridgeway, while running from the deputies.

He was located in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, by the Myrtle Beach Police Department and taken into custody without incident. The Saturn was also recovered in Myrtle Beach.

Carlton Haizlip is in a Myrtle Beach jail, awaiting extradition to Henry County, the release stated.
