The crash occurred early Saturday morning at the intersection of Cooper Road and Suncrest Drive.

One killed, three injured during Rankin County crash

During a news conference on Monday, Jackson leaders extended their condolences to the family of Tina Carter Sawyer, 35, who died during the crash. According to Wade, a video showed a Jackson police patrol car driving by Sawyer's vehicle.

"They have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of this investigation. But I want the citizens to know first thing is that, again, we're building something special. We're creating trust, not distrust," said Wade.

The police chief did not specify whether the crash stemmed from a police chase. The case will be turned over to the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI).
