Two men in custody for murder of 17-year-old in Halifax County, deputies say

WELDON, N.C. (WNCN) — The Halifax County Sheriff's Office announced the arrests of two men after their murder investigation of a teenager began in early September at the Weldon Projects.

Deputies say they responded to a report of a shooting on September 5 around 8:30 a.m. on the 700 block of Spruce Court in Weldon. Upon arrival, deputies say they located a 16-year-old male deceased with a single gunshot wound.

According to deputies, their investigation led them to Greensboro, and with the help of the Greensboro Police Department, they arrested Nas'zier Equon Lamar Grant, 21 of Rich Square.

Grant was charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and possession of a weapon of mass destruction, deputies said.

According to deputies, investigators obtained warrants for the arrest of Keyshun Boswell, 24 of Roanoke Rapids, for first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, possession of firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of a weapon of mass destruction.

After the search began on Wednesday, deputies said Boswell's family convinced him to turn himself into the Halifax County Sheriff's Office that evening, where he was arrested.

Both Grant and Boswell were not granted bonds and are currently placed in the Halifax County Detention Center.
