Tyler community event Love Thy City to take place in mid-July
TYLER, Texas ( KETK ) – A community betterment event, Love Thy City, was announced on Tuesday, and will take place on July 20.

The event looks to give back to the community, with more than 3,000 backpacks of school supplies being given away, window A/C unit giveaways, chances for a free bike and every attendee receiving a free meal.
"Love Thy City is about giving. It's about showing love. No one is paying for anything. We don't want a dollar. We are going to be giving because this is how we show the love of our savior Jesus Christ," DeMarcus Pierson, of Love Thy City, said.
The event will also have a variety of free services from East Texas nonprofits, including counseling.

Love Thy City will take place on July 20, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the W.T. Brookshire Conference Center.
Although the event is in Tyler, the organizers said that anyone in East Texas is welcome to the event.
Love Thy City is a "community-driven religious nonprofit" based in Tyler that looks to uplift the East Texas community.
