National retailer Ulta Beauty is permitted to build-out and install signage at St. Augustine Premium Outlets in the space now operating as women's apparel chain Lane Bryant.

St. Johns County issued permits Nov. 8 for the chain's build-out at a cost of $1.27 million. A permit for the signage was approved Sept. 25 at $4,200.

The 5,050-square-foot space is at 2700 Florida 16, Suite 1007, in the mall's southernmost section next to the Adidas store. Site plans show sections for fragrances, hair care, skincare, cosmetics and hair color.

Daytona Beach-based Vision General Contractors is the contractor.

Founded in 1990 by Richard George and Terry Hanson, the Ulta reported on its website Feb. 3 that it had 1,385 locations in 50 states, including 99 in Florida. In addition to free-standing locations, the site said it has more than 500 1,000-square-foot shops in select Target locations.

Staff at the St. Augustine Lane Bryant store said there are no plans to close or relocate, but that they were aware that Ulta intends to open in the outlet mall.

Simon Property Group, which owns the mall through CPG Partners LP, did not respond to calls for comment.

Lane Bryant's former parent company, Ascena Retail Group Inc., filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy July 23, 2020. According to the filing, it said it would close 1,100 of its approximately 2,800 stores, including Ann Taylor, Lane Bryant and Loft stores.

According to its website, Sycamore Partners said its affiliate Premium Apparel LLC bought the Ann Taylor, Loft, Lou & Grey and Lane Bryant brands in December 2020.

In 2023, private equity firm Sycamore placed Lane Bryant in its KnitWell Group along with Ann Taylor, Chico's, Haven Well Within, Loft, Soma, Talbots and WHBM.

According to the Lane Bryant website, there are 363 stores in the United States. The state and territory with the most Lane Bryant locations in the U.S. is Texas, with 49 stores. There are 18 in Florida.
