Union City man charged with sexual assault of girl, 6

A 48-year-old Union City man has been charged with sexually assaulting a 6-year-old girl at a Jersey City home earlier this year, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced Thursday.

Edgar Fernando-Gomez was arrested Wednesday at his home by members of the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office Special Victims Unit after investigating reports of sexual contact with a 6-year-old girl.

He is charged with second-degree sexual assault by contact and third-degree endangering the welfare of a child. Fernando-Gomez is being held at the Hudson County jail, pending his first court appearance.

Suarez said Fernando-Gomez is known to the victim, but she did not provide any details of their relationship. She said the crimes were committed May 19.
