Unique art honoring veterans on display in Youngstown
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – A unique piece of art will be on display at the Mahoning County Courthouse for the public to see.
Commissioners unveiled the artwork entitled "Standing Together." It's the depiction of an American flag made with painted drywall screws.
Youngstown native Dr. Chrisanne Gordon with the group Resurrecting Lives Foundation helped create the piece, which has been shown around the country and will eventually be placed at the county's new Veterans Service Commission office.
"Our nation needs to know that our veterans have sacrificed. We need to give them honor. We need to bring them back to our communities when they come back from service. It gives the whole community a sense of healing to hear their stories, to see what they've done," Gordon said.
The border of the piece is filled with the signatures of veterans or their family members who have seen the sculpture as it's traveled the country... Doctor Gordon says she would like to see similar pieces for every state in the country....
