LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – A total of $11 million in grants to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences will allow it to expand clinical services and upgrade a Little Rock campus building.

Officials said the two grants will be used to create a gastroenterology clinic and endoscopy center while permitting upgrades to its Monroe Building.

UAMS officials said an $8 million grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) will be used to place a new 15,0000 square foot gastroenterology clinic and endoscopy center in the Freeway Medical Tower.

The gastroenterology clinic will take up 9,000 square feet and include 14 exam rooms and rooms for minor procedures and administration. Officials continued that the endoscopy center will take up 6,000 square feet and include three or four endoscopy procedure rooms, with space for administration and clinical needs.

Construction is slated to begin in June 2025.

A separate $3 million HRSA grant will be used for mechanical, electrical, plumbing and roofing upgrades to the Monroe Building. Officials say this may permit the expansion of the UAMS Milk Bank program, which helps ensure a steady supply of donor milk for sick and vulnerable infants in neonatal intensive care units statewide.
