UPDATE: Greensboro stabbing victim was ex-girlfriend of suspect, authorities say

A 28-year-old Greensboro man is charged with first-degree murder in the stabbing death of his ex-girlfriend, police and the Guilford County District Attorney's Office say.

Zachary Small allegedly stabbed 47-year-old Chancy Beck to death on Monday at a home the two shared at 5520 Forest Road, then called police to report the crime, police and the Guilford County District Attorney's Office said.

Small is charged with first-degree murder, according to the Guilford County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies were called to the residence at about 9:33 a.m. where they discovered Beck dead from multiple stab wounds, the release said.

Investigators subsequently arrested and charged Small.

Small, who faces life in prison without parole or the death penalty if convicted, is currently being held at the Guilford County Detention Center in Greensboro without bond, the release said.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities did not disclose information about the weapon used.

Small is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 7.
