LINCOLN — UScellular continues to enhance its network in Nebraska with the addition of 10 new cell sites throughout the state in Ayr, Brainard, Cedar Rapids, Edgar, Elmwood, Murray, Newcastle, Niobrara, Ponca and Tobias.

Announced in 2022, these sites were built through $5.1 million from the Nebraska Universal Service Fund Wireless Fund Program to enhance mobile, on-the-go connectivity in communities across the state. These new sites provide wireless coverage to more than 700 square miles, which includes along several state and county highways and park areas. They are among more than 500 sites UScellular operates across Nebraska.

"At UScellular, we focus on providing an exceptional customer experience and a fast, reliable network to keep our customers connected to what matters most," said Monique Moore, director of sales and operations for UScellular in Nebraska. "We applaud the Nebraska Public Service Commission for their ongoing commitment to providing connectivity to hard-to-reach areas of our state, and we are thrilled that more Nebraskans now have access to the connectivity these new towers provide."

Since 2010, UScellular has built or upgraded more than 60 towers using NUSF funding. Building and maintaining a new cell tower in rural areas can cost twice as much as building one in an urban center, so programs like this are important to help wireless carriers connect residents quickly and efficiently.

"Through its continued participation in the NUSF-92 program, UScellular has proven to be a valuable partner in the state's efforts to enhance wireless coverage through the construction of mobile wireless towers," said Commissioner Dan Watermeier, chair Nebraska Public Service Commission.

Leveraging NUSF funding announced in 2023, UScellular is currently working on five additional sites in Beemer, Memphis, Monroe, Naponee and Nehawka. Those sites are expected to be completed in late 2025.

Additionally, UScellular invested $11.9 million in its Nebraska network in 2023. This includes network upgrades and 5G modernizations that enhanced connectivity across the state and advanced the company's ongoing 5G network evolution and expansion strategy.
