Verizon goes down for thousands across US

Verizon is down across the US, leaving users unable to make phone calls, send text messages or surf the web .

Downdector, a site that monitors online outages , shows issues began around 8am ET with customers reporting mobile phone and internet services are not working.

This marks the second Verizon outage in about a week with the last hitting in September 30.

Verizon has more than 143 million users in the US - but the amount hit by the outage is unknown.

Downdector's outage map shows major cities like New York City, Phoenix, Detroit and Chicago are experiencing issues.

Approximately 69 percent of users cited problems with mobile phone service, 21 percent reported problems with 5G Home internet and a small two percent of users said they do not have a signal.

Verizon customers have shared their frustration on X, with many posting: 'Verizon is down again.'

One user joke on the platform, sharing: 'Don't worry, you paid your bill. Verizon is down.'
