Veteran Lions DT already boosting run defense and could be counted on for more

ALLEN PARK - While one of the top defensive additions for the Detroit Lions is set to miss the season, DJ Reader is already bringing another level of stoutness to the run defense and could be counted on for more with injuries mounting.

Reader has played 25 defensive snaps in each of his first two games with the Lions. He's helped solidify the team's stout run defense and could be needed for a larger role much sooner than later, with Alim McNeill battling a shoulder injury and Marcus Davenport out for the season. While Davenport is a pure edge, the Lions have a ton of versatile inside-outside pieces bouncing around, so Reader's presence in the middle could help the whole rotation.
